Osteopaths

Dr. Conor Abrey

B.Sci (Osteo) M.Health.Sc (Osteo). Registered Osteopath

Conor is driven to make a meaningful difference to others in order to improve the quality of life of people that he meets.

Conor loves to work with patients that are motivated to play an active role in their own recovery and help themselves to feel as good as possible. Conor’s aim is to improve patients' function and quality of life. To do this he incorporates a combination of manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises and lifestyle changes that are tailored specifically to the patient.

Conor uses a wide range of techniques to relieve tight or shortened tissues, increase movement, decrease pain and improve patient’s general wellbeing and support his patients back to health. These include soft tissue massage, stretching, joint articulations, muscle energy technique, counterstain and dry needling. He has also seen great results from placing a focus on education and exercise prescription within his management.

Conor has particular interest in the management of acute (‘new’ pain or flare-ups of previous issues) injuries. He has treated a wide variety of patients during university placements, using a combination of face to face and telehealth consultations. This provided him with valuable experience managing many different types of presentations. He also has a background in healthcare, having worked 4 years in a hospital setting.

Conor has spent an extensive amount of time being treated by other healthcare practitioners (osteopaths and physiotherapists) due to his own injury list from extensive participation in sport. As a result, he can empathise with patients and often understand their needs and challenges from a personal perspective, especially the difficulty of being on the side-lines, the road to recovery and getting back to sport and work.

Conor is a university trained, government registered Osteopath and a member of Osteopathy Australia. Conor is registered with Medicare, WorkCover Queensland and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Conor participates in ongoing skill development and education to remain at the forefront of the application of treatment and patient management.

Dr. Rod Parry

MOst Med, BClinSc(OstSc) Registered Osteopath

With an extensive manual therapy background stretching over a decade, Rod is highly experienced with patient care and management. Rod has been a remedial massage educator at Q Academy and spent seven years as the assigned massage therapist for the Chennai Super Kings within the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament. He has also worked with athletes as part of the NRL, AFL, Rugby World Cup and Australian Open.

Rod varies his approach to cater for all ages and occupations. He enjoys and has extensive experience in working with patients of varied backgrounds, from the office worker to the ‘tradie’ and the weekend warrior to the professional athlete.

Rod is driven to support his patients’ goals accompanied by a varied selection of hands-on osteopathic techniques including manipulation, myofacial release, specific stretching methods (MET), joint articulation, visceral techniques, cranio-sacral technique and manipulation (HVLA). He uses these techniques to restore function, increase range of motion and mobility, reduce stress, mood and attitude and assist gut health.

Individualised education with attention to exercise, diet and nutrition, ergonomics and occupational health, are also part of his focus throughout his management/when addressing acute (new) and chronic (longer term) pain presentations.

“Osteopathy encompasses a myriad of common and rare health complaints and common musculoskeletal conditions that can be treated manually. Using hands on techniques to impact change in these conditions can be profound.” Rod Parry

In his patient management, Rod places great emphasis on:

  1. getting crystal clear on each patient's expectations and goals from the start

  2. identifying the pattern or source causing the chief complaint

  3. rectifying the issue through education and hands-on treatment and preventing relapse

Rod loves to unpack the puzzle of the human body and explain to the patient what is going on in order to give them back control and maximise their quality of life.

“I enjoy and feel rewarded by seeing improvement in a patient’s health”. Rod Parry

Originally from the Blue Mountains when not working with patients, he loves tackling adventurous bike trails, composing music for solo guitar, and a hearty plot twist at the cinema.

Rod is a university trained, government registered Osteopath and a member of Osteopathy Australia and is registered with Medicare, WorkCover Queensland and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Rod participates in ongoing skill development and education to remain at the forefront of the application of treatment and patient management.

Dr. Angus Hughes MOst Med, BClinSc (OstSc) Registered Osteopath

Angus has a love for health and fitness both personally and professionally. With a 15 year history playing soccer, extensive gym experience and previous work as a labourer, Angus has a true understanding of the stressors that manual labour and an active lifestyle can place on the body and the kinds of injuries that may be experienced.

Angus has a particular interest in working with active individuals who want to help themselves and participate in their recovery. He loves working with sporting injuries and general acute issues (recent injuries or flare up of older issues).

“I believe I can make a difference and help people reduce their pain and reach their goals. I enjoy both the process and the results”. Angus Hughes

Angus aims to alleviate the patient’s symptoms and to help them in their recovery by providing the necessary tools for them to achieve their goals and ideal outcomes. He designs a treatment plan using an individualised approach to each patient according to their needs.

Angus uses a variety of osteopathic techniques, exercise prescription, dry needling and kinesiology taping to promote the body’s ability to heal, improve function and range of motion and reduce pain and discomfort. The osteopathic techniques Angus uses can include specific joint stretching (Muscle Energy Technique), myofacial release, articulation, manipulation and soft tissue massage.

Angus also sees great results from providing the tools for the patient to help in their recovery, including home or gym based exercises and education on types of footwear and the impacts it can have.

Health and fitness is an integral part of Angus’ days. He enjoys soccer, gym and surfing. He loves a good coffee and hanging out with friends or with his Chocolate Labrador, Bruce.

Angus is a university trained, government registered Osteopath and a member of Osteopathy Australia and is registered with Medicare, WorkCover Queensland and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
